Located in state-of-the-art facilities in the historic riverfront area of the vibrant city of Columbus, the Department of Art offers rigorous programs of study that guide students toward becoming creative professionals in their field in Studio Art, Art Education, Graphic Design, Animation, or Art History. Students in Studio Art choose a focus in Book Arts and Printmaking, Ceramics, Narrative Illustration, Painting and Drawing, Photography, Sculpture and Expanded Media, Animation, or Graphic Design. Visiting artists and scholars are regularly in residence and lead workshops or teach courses in topics related to their artistic and scholarly work. Everything that is offered in the Department -- a rich selection of courses, exhibitions, in-depth critiques, workshops and lectures – is orchestrated to expose our gifted students to an incredibly rich array of different perspectives and creates an intense environment designed to foster future, successful careers for our graduates. The Department has earned full professional accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

"As a current student, I feel lucky to attend CSU and to be a part of the Art Department. It is through the advice, support, and opportunities offered to me by the professors and other staff that I have succeeded and continue to succeed. The access to facilities, such as the art studios, Junior-Senior level personal studios, and Art Research Lab (ARL), has been phenomenal and allowed for further exploration of projects and associated materials. You are able to cultivate an experience that allows for the exploration of topics that you are interested in and in a medium you love. Lectures from visiting artists, community speakers, and other related opportunities, such as field trips to Pasaquan, further your contact with outside opportunities and experiences. Access to scholarships, art shows, internships, and study abroad further enrich the four-year program and prepare you for after you graduate." - Ainsley Steeves

"My experience with the Department of Art at Columbus State University has been no less than amazing. In the past few years that I have studied here, I have gained more knowledge, encouragement, and opportunities than imaginable. The Department of Art is constantly providing ways for students to get involved, including juried art shows, internships, and study abroad programs. Likewise, we are often able to see real working artists through gallery exhibitions and artists in residency. The professors are very open and knowledgeable in their fields, and offer students support while we navigate new media and information. There are plenty of resources: from studio spaces, woodshops, and computer labs, to our very own Art History library. Overall, the programs offered in the Department of Art enable students to be well prepared for the working-world. I have grown closer to my peers, my professors, and my love of art since being a part of this department." - Cierra Fountain
